Course Description
The AST 1 is a entry level backcountry skiing course:
In an AST 1, you’ll learn how to recognize avalanche terrain, understand the avalanche forecast, plan your trips, and perform a companion rescue. Everyone in your group should take an AST 1—it’s the first step to traveling safely in the backcountry.
What you will learn:
Avalanche formation and release.
How to identify avalanche terrain.
The basics of trip planning.
How to use the avalanche forecast to mitigate your avalanche risk.
Using appropriate travel techniques in avalanche terrain.
Intro to companion rescue.

8:00am - 4:00pm
Fine Print
Returns
Full refund, less processing fee, available up to 14 days prior to course start date. Less than 14 days prior to course start date, 50% refund available.
OR
Date changes within the same winter season, subject to availability, free of charge. Minimum 4 participants required for course to go ahead
Waivers
All students are required to complete the AST Provider Release Waiver, as well as have a parent/guardian complete the Acknowledgement of Risk Waiver for students under the age of 19.
Local ski area waivers may apply for lift access.
Additional
Intermediate skiing/riding ability is recommended.
Participants should have their own avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel, as well as touring skis, a splitboard, or snowshoes & downhill equipment
Price does not include a lift access ticket. For those without a seasons pass, a single lift access ticket is available from the resort for a reasonable price.

Course participation requires completion of our waiver prior to your dates. Your waiver should be completed and submitted at the time of registration for our courses.
